6th Form HAL Conference - 14th February, Alsager School
A selected group of our 6th form learners engaged in our newly established half-termly high ability learners conference for students in our partner Chimney House Alliance schools. The first session was hosted and organised by Alsager School.
The session was designed to test the critical thinking skills and debating prowess of learners as they discussed the intricacies of nuclear arms. Dr Martin Hyde, Engineering Manager at EcoLab, was the keynote speaker and started the conference with a discussion about his role. Students then formed a 'Question Time' style panel to develop their debating skills- a roaring success!
Feedback from students said that they found the day 'challenging, informative and highly enjoyable'. Natasha Ahmen, HAL champion at Alsager School, said ‘higher-order thinking skills are essential for our high ability learners and this first conference where students can exercise these skills and then apply them to their school-based subjects is a fantastic opportunity for them.’
The next conference will be based on Oxbridge applications and will be held at Malbank School on Thursday 2nd April.
